How Pinteresting: Wedding Decor Revealed!

This is my second to last wedding post. I am pretty sure I am excited to finally be done with wedding recaps. I don't know why I feel like I have to recap it, but it sort of feels those last 15 thank-you notes I still need to write. Eeep. Sorry if you are one of those people!

But its time to be newlyweds, and enjoy our house and focus on all the things we want to do, like travel, decorate our house. ect, ect. ect. I also loathe not blogging in real time, so I am pretty excited to take this blog out of it's original 'wedding blog' space. This is already starting to sound like my last wedding post, but fear not - I have one more. I mean come on I know you aren't sick of my wedding already, right??

Overall, while looking back at original post about how pinterest inspired me, I kept the light peach and softened my blues. I switched out burlap with linen, because burlap is rustic and linen is beachy, and stuck with bucket centerpieces and lanterns for the nautical effect. All details are at the bottom. Enjoy!

And that's it I think. I went super crazy on being crafty, but I wish I had done more! This was by far my favorite part of the wedding that I wished I had spend more time and dinero on. If you care to know the details, I put them below!

• Runners -We custom ordered the linen from JoAnn's fabric, and my sister sewed one stitch on 16 pieces of fabric. Then we peeled string by string from the stitch outwards get the frayed 'beach effect.'
• Centerpieces - We primed and spray painted the buckets, then sanded them to get a 'beach wash.' all buckets and silver vases were purchased from save-on-crafts.com. Our lantern additions were purchased from exclusivelyweddings.com which was significantly cheaper than Michael's.
  
• Flowers - I chose dusty miller (the gray leaf) wheat and thistle to complement the standard roses and carnations. I felt the dusty miller gave the bouquets a washed out muted look, which was the modern element I wanted. I had seen it in so many modern floral arrangements. Paired with the thistle and wheat, It completed the soft, wildflower look I wanted. My only complaint is the dusty miller 'fell' early. I am sure there is a way to prevent that, and if you are interested in dusty miller I'd just ask about that ahead of time. Our flowers were done by J Maisel's Florist in Galveston and I was extremely pleased with them. they were one of my top vendors for sure.
• Frames- All frames were painted with interior paint, and purchased from Michael's, except two white ones that we left as is. The interior paint started chipping, then we decided it looked 'distressed' and beachy. Then we started sanding other items to follow suit. Printables included "Just Married" "Thank You" 'Mr." "Mrs" "Eats" "Treats" "Drinks" and were created by Miss Kristen herself!
• Cake - Cake pop stands were purchased from Michaels, and also painted with the interior paint of the frames. I chose a lemon cake with tiny fondant pieces to create an 'ombre' inspired cake. I opted to use three colors from our color scheme, instead of going ombre like I originally planned. The cake pops helped cut cost, since the intricate cake was $$$$.

Part 3: Creating our Our Save the Date

I gotta get this out of the way, so I can finally stop rambling about it! Here is our Save the date, and a little bit of why this project was fun, but also a royal pain in my ass :)

FIRST DRAFT:

This was the original direction we were heading (super rough draft don't judge)

But Matt hated the picture. So, as much as I liked it I felt pretty terrible putting out a picture he hated.

I just liked the beach and the poles!

I was trying so hard to make a beach picture work, but it just, well wasn't workin'

So we started over.

Lindsey probably wanted to strangle me when I told her I wanted to start from scratch with a new picture.

Lindsey made me pick out my font from dafont.com since I kept saying I wanted this and that but she really had no idea what I was talking about. Probably because I making it up!

Then I realized I really wanted to incorporate burlap to frame the picture.

SECOND DRAFT:

We thought we we're done, but then the font wouldn't embed. GAH!

FINAL DRAFT:

So picked another font - which I ended up liking better:

Better right? Well then we went to print annnddd more problems. But we solved them.

And then I mailed them.

After it was all done, it was our first piece of 'wedding mail' which felt..sorta monumental? Like we hit a big milestone of sorts. It still really hasn't sunk in that we are getting married in 3 months.

Maybe because everything is moving so fast? hmm.

Well, I slowed down for a second and took a few pics to commemorate the moment.

Save the date crisis and a lil' glitter for ya!

Hey Ladies (read in monotone voice)

So, I am having a little save-the-date crisis

BUT behold, every crisis has a solution

My solution? Um.. go to bed.

Yea. 

These are the cutest save-the-dates I've ever seen, but I really don't have the time..

this weekend we will be at our marriage preparation retreat.. 

and I really should have gotten them in the mail, say, um yesterday as a matter of fact. FML.

BUT. I did paint my nails. So here they are:

A sweetheart wedding dress: cupcake edition

 Well helloooooooooooo.

I took a little hiatus, last week came brought on a few challenges, so this post is long overdue. I gotta say, how does everyone feel about the time change?!? It was awesome at first because we got an extra hour of sleep, but now its just dark. haha. Such is life, the grass is always greener.

Alright! now on to what I really came here to gab about.  Last week I asked (most of) my bridesmaids, with hand-delivered cupcakes that looked like wedding dresses. It was pinterest inspired of course! I saw the cupcakes and just knew I wanted to use them at some point in my wedding planning process. After I asked my sister to be my Matron of Honor, (I had to ask her first, duh! ..see how I asked here) I very impulsively asked her if she could replicate the pinterest cupcakes. So we headed to Michael's to see what we could accomplish. We made the cupcakes first, obviously. I think we used Pilsbury white cupcakes. Here is how the hard part went:

We used fondant that my sister had on hand

 We used a regular ol' cup to cut out a circle out of the fondant and a heart shape cookie cutter to create a sweetheart dress line. First roll the fondant out, then use the cup to cut a circle.We used tweezers to place the pearls in the appropriate place.



I placed them in a whie box from Michaels, for $1.29 a piece. EASY! We wrapped them in Tulle for that Bridal Touch. 


Then I placed little notes I printed out in the box, and voila! I delivered them. I delivered them in so many different ways. I woke people up and asked them to meet me on their driveway, dropped off them on doorsteps, had my sister deliver one disguised as 'dropping off a dress I borrowed.'

I really had a blast giving them to my dearest friends. It was so flipping exciting. Asking someone to participate in countless events and spend money on you.... is hard for someone like me that hates to ask for things. So I had to do something to make myself feel better! I couldn't have seen myself asking in any other way, and I'm so incredibly stoked to have my best friends in my bridal party. Now if I could only find a date.... you girls may get off easy! I keed I keed. Thank you Emily, Anne Marie, Stephanie, Julie, Jessie and Lynette for graciously accepting my cupcakes. I'll never forget it!

A big thanks to my sister, she really whipped these up in so little time. I have tried to convince her a million times to start her own wedding cake business, and she insists that brides are just too hard to please. Maybe after I'm married she will change her mind, she's practically planning my wedding anyway! :)

Asking My Matron of Honor

This was a big weekend in wedding land.  I came to Austin to dress and venue shop with my sister, and I knew I had to find a cute way to ask her to be my Matron of Honor.  My wonderful co-worker Lindsey mentioned how she designed hand-made coloring books for the kids at her wedding reception, and the lightbulb went off: I should have my niece color the question! She's my future flower girl so I figured I'd put her to work! I keed, I keed.

The whole process didn't go as planned (of course it didn't). 

I tasked my bro-in-law with having Ceci color the page, and after a long day we walked in to my niece coloring. Rob says "uh, she's coloring it right now," and My sister was like "huh, coloring what?" 

Pretty much bombed the suprise! 

But my sister looked at it, was confused initially, then started cracking up and whispered to Ceci to tell me 'yes.'  Ceci then got shy and ran away, which was pretty hilarious in itself. She definitely had no clue what was going on, but I think it will be such a great story to tell Cecily when she is older.

Overall this weekend was a success! I have a matron of honor, ate Maudie's twice, and saw the kids. I was super exhausted after it all, and then we got an extra hour of sleep to fix it!
